While the recently announced $50 million for research for studying long term COVID is to be welcomed it is a piecemeal response to a much more complex and broader policy issue. Such funding along with other important recommendations from the Standing Committee need to be part of a more comprehensive and integrated package of measures.
Other countries have done their post pandemic assessments better.
Australia has not even started.

We need to do a proper, independent review now before it is forgotten what we all went through, so perhaps we can learn for the future.
The Albanese government while quick to appoint a royal commission into its predecessor’s robodebt program, continues to drag its feet on appointing one into a national calamity that caused the death of thousands of Australians and untold disruption to our lives.
