Pulp mill more grist for the Greens' mill

By Peter Tucker - posted Tuesday, 15 March 2005

But it seems Mr Lennon is having none of that. He is on record this far out from the election saying he will not govern in minority. He is in the strongest position to bamboozle the public because he already leads a majority government and can, and will, play the “a vote for the Liberals is a vote for minority government” card for all he is worth between now and the election. Nothing like a good scare campaign.

Mr Hidding to date has been silent on minority government. He simply has too few seats to pretend he can win outright so has to find some form of words to explain to the people what he will do. His answer will be interesting indeed.

But despite what they may say in public, Mr Lennon and Mr Hidding must know that both major parties simply cannot refuse to form government in minority. Besides being constitutionally irresponsible, the governor, William Cox, almost certainly will not allow it. The alternative is absurd - continual elections until the people get it “right”?
