YU to Graham!

By Vesnai Baki - posted Tuesday, 15 June 1999

I am 23 years old. I am a law student and as well I work in a patent attorney's office. My brother is a 28-year-old engineering student. He does not work, and after three more exams he will graduate.

I suppose you know what is happening in this territory, but no one has the right information about the situation here. I don’t say that we have either, but I want someone to listen, from a foreign country, to the other side of the story.

Everything begins with the Kosovo crisis. I suppose you know that Kosovo is part of our country - the heart of Serbia. Here we think that no one should interfere in our internal politics. It would be like us going to kill people in England because they don’t want to give independence to Ireland, and funding the IRA at the same time.

NATO thinks it is the world policeman, and it can kill everyone it wants, without thought of the victims - children and women among them ... They say that they want to be humanitarian people and to help refugees ... hmm … are they helping them? No they are killing them!

So what is the question here! What do they want?

They say that Milosevic is guilty for all of this, that he is killing people in Kosovo? Is he? I don’t say that he is a saint, but when NATO destroys a convoy of refugees, isn’t it killing people as well?

And what do they say about that, that it was just mistake! WELL VERY EXPENSIVE MISTAKE!

You know I am young and I can’t go out with my friends, and I can’t learn because I am finding it difficult to concentrate. By bombing us and taking out our electricity and water supplies NATO is building here a humanitarian catastrophe of their own.

So what are we going to do?

We are going to go crazy. How are my children going to look? I am afraid that these bombs have uranium in them. Yes, a doctor said that no women should get pregnant for at least three to five years till everything settles down. So, if I decided to have a child, I couldn't because my baby could be born with some diseases or anomalies. Also we can't eat our fruit and vegetables. Where do we go to now?

I am not optimistic any more. I was, but not anymore!

This is all from me, I can’t write for very long because I don’t know when the electricity will disappear again!

Bye for now!
