Insiders V Outsiders: The implications for minor parties

Gentrification proceeds apace so why has the logistical advantage and political dominance of the left progressive insiders been diminished?

Howard’s recognition of outsiders played a part but underlying is the greater access and use of the internet. Outsiders, marginalised in the past, can now increasingly play political roles without having to operate in the left progressive insider domain, dancing to their tune.

Disseminating opinion, organising support, policy input are now at the fingertips of all, at little cost and to great effect.

Left progressive insiders will not want to relinquish their control of the Democrats, Greens and Labor. Their swim against the tide will complete the destruction of the Democrats, ensure the Greens remain just a protest party and prolong Labor’s comeback.

Those of us who are Labor outsiders and liberal leaning ex Democrats must surely unite with the growing band of disillusioned Liberals to form a broad based centre Party. At present we all have no box to tick. Another Don Chipp, step forward.
