The paternal state - politician sperm donors? No thanks!

By Melinda Tankard Reist - posted Monday, 24 January 2005

But seriously, is anyone thinking about the impact on children? Tony Abbott still gets bagged for relinquishing a child for adoption while a student, yet Kovacs is calling on as many male politicians as possible to give over their sperm, wipe their hands and cut and run from any responsibilities to the child created. What kind of a “role model” is it for male MP’s - many of whom already have children - to be creating half sisters and brothers their kids will likely never see?

Concern about not cutting off the flow of sperm has been given precedence over a child’s well being. “The emphasis has been on getting … babies. But no one thought of how those babies would feel when they grew up,” a young woman born of donor insemination told me.

Gab Kovacs and others who’ll do anything to get sperm haven’t said a thing about the children and how they’ll feel when they find out down the track that they were conceived as the result of some publicity stunt by the IVF industry.

Not to mention how they’ll feel when they discover their dad really was a wanker.
