God save the Queen

When we think of Australia and its relationship to the UK, we think of its republican movement and the prime minister putting his hand on the Queen, while not protocol, not a crime against humanity either.

The Australian desire for divorce is probably stronger than in Canada, which has more pressing issues when it comes to separation. Quebec, like Scotland, plays with this idea. While the movement for independence has calmed down in Quebec, it is rearing its head more prominently in Scotland, which will have a referendum in two years.

The Queen has served her nation well over the past six decades, and the people came to show their appreciation despite the typical inclement weather, in the shadow of dire economic warnings. London, however, remains a bubble with Russian, Greek, Arab, and Chinese money pouring in as fast as the rain falls.

Britain is still a wonderful nation but a wonderful nation amongst other equally wonderful nations, not quite as grand as they once were, and perhaps, not even quite as grand as they like to think they are.

These days they have a little more respect for other countries, like Canada and Australia, and no longer refer to us as colonies. Anyway, now we are all looking East, no whingeing in sight.
