The hearts and minds of reconciliation

By Philip Ruddock - posted Saturday, 15 June 2002

There are parts of Australia where people have been living side by side, living in the same street, and their eyes do not meet. We must change that.

Likewise, there are communities which have set out and addressed these issues successfully and in partnership with governments. The refusal to acknowledge these achievements denies the encouragement important for future advancement.

I believe we have come to another important junction on the path of national reconciliation. I think we have a very constructive environment. We are building bridges.
