Under the gun

By Julian Cribb - posted Tuesday, 9 June 2009

To avert the clathrate gun may require the complete cessation of human greenhouse emissions - bearing in mind that much of the carbon we have already released will hang round in the atmosphere for a couple of centuries, so the Earth will continue to warm gradually in any event. Regrettably, it may also require us largely giving up carnivory, which is one of the main sources of greenhouse emissions from livestock, landscape degradation and feed production.

No meat pies, no Holden cars (unless hydrogen powered) but hopefully, still roos and footy.

And hopefully still us.
