So the Liberal Party needs to reflect on the loss, re-engage its voter base, digest where it went wrong and rebuild itself. In so doing, we should heed Peter Costello's words that it is very important that we be frank, open and honest and not take our assessment from Labor or the media.
We cannot let Labor and segments of the media rewrite history. The Liberal Party has seen difficult times before, but we met those challenges and went on to become one of the most successful governments Australia will ever see.
Now that the Liberal Party has chosen its new leadership team it is imperative we become an effective and united Opposition with the intention of winning government back in 2010.

Let's not forget that millions of Australians voted for the conservative side of politics. They voted for us because they too shared our view of mainstream conservatism. We owe it to them to make sure that while Rudd may have borrowed it to get elected, we do not let him stake his claim. We need to recapture our ground.
