For just one example, the UN World Food Program helps feed 100 million people every year, in 80 countries. The UN High Commission for Refugees has projects in 116 countries. Below, I list just some of the many UN bodies.
The UN is funded by regular contributions from many countries. The USA is hundreds of millions of dollars in arrears in its commitment to the UN. Could this be a reason why the USA and Australia are so negative towards the UN?
No, I don’t think it’s that. More likely, the US and Australian governments are embarrassed as a result of the Iraq fiasco, (when the UN inspectors were correct about there being no weapons of mass destruction) or because the US does not like the International Criminal Court, or because neither government wants to follow UN goals to really reduce carbon emissions.

For Australia, it seems easier to follow the US line, in this case, denigrating the UN, even if 190 other nations are in favour of it.
We used to be a convict colony of England. Now, I guess we're becoming an economic colony of global corporations. It is a pity if Australia has to be a cultural colony and attitudinal colony of the US government as well.
If Australians bother to look at the facts on the United Nations, they would find that the evidence is there - the concept of the “family of man” still lives, and is being continually put into practice through the work of the UN.
