Shihabi asserts:
Jordanians and Palestinians are as similar as any people can be. They are Sunni Arabs from the same neighborhood. Merging them will not create any long-term ethnic or sectarian fault lines."=
Israel's rejection of the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative

The Israeli Knesset rejected the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative 68-9 on 18 July 2024:
The Knesset of Israel firmly opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state west of Jordan. The establishment of a Palestinian state in the heart of the Land of Israel will pose an existential danger to the State of Israel and its citizens, perpetuate the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and destabilize the region."
The Two-State Solution: a defunct concept
The two-state solutions proposed by the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative and UNSCR 2334 are no longer viable. Gaza's exclusion from HKOPS has jump-started HKOPS as the most realistic option to reshape the region's geopolitical landscape and end the Arab-Jewish conflict.
The Arab world and the U.N. must acknowledge this shifting reality and engage with implementing HKOPS rather than clinging to outdated and unattainable proposals.
