How business can create jobs and help the environment in one simple step

By Lindsay Soutar - posted Wednesday, 11 December 2019

Company staff and consumers want to see it happen. Recent polling from Greenpeace shows that nearly 70% of people think big businesses should set a target of 100% renewable energy, while 67% of people would prefer to work for a company that uses renewable energy.

At present, every year, Australian business and industry use approximately 70% of Australia's electricity - and Australian electricity is still largely generated by burning polluting coal. If we want a safe and healthy climate for all Australians, big companies need to clean up their act and make the commitment to 100% renewable energy.

Climate change is impacting Australian families now. But with Australia's abundance in wind, sun and land, we have a massive opportunity to switch to renewable energy and create cleaner, safer power and a healthier climate for all.

Australian companies can lead the way and give people the choice to support businesses doing the right thing. As this research shows - by making the renewable shift some of Australia's biggest electricity users, companies, can go from being a big part of the problem to a big part of the solution.
