How to say 'Don't Shoot' in all the world's languages

By Keith Suter - posted Monday, 23 May 2016

There are very strict limitations on how the emblem may be used. Even the Australian Red Cross has to follow those limitations (as in marketing campaigns).

Most misuse is done without any malice. Business/ medical centre owners and sign writers etc may be unaware of the strict limitations. When the illegality is pointed out to them, they change the logo used by the business.

The problem is that - given the low awareness of the strict limitations – it is necessary to keep reminding the newcomers to medical centres, businesses, design shops etc about the limitations.

There is now an opportunity for Australians to play their part in protecting the emblem. There is now an app for reporting misuse. The Emblem App is available from iTunes or http://redcross.org.au/TheEmblemApp. Australian Red Cross will follow up the leads.

Australian Red Cross does not want to get people into trouble. Indeed, reporting on the misuse is a way of helping them to avoid trouble. It will also gradually increase public awareness of the special status of the Red Cross emblem.

It is necessary to protect the emblem that protects.
