For me losing my sight taught me a resourcefulness, determination, empathy and perspective on life that has allowed me to be an active contributor and leader in business, not-for-profits and my local community.
Safe Schools makes a real difference to the lives of LGBTI and other students who may be different; perhaps a bit shy, perhaps overweight, really smart.
If successful at this year's election I will be the only MP to be legally blind. It isn't the symbolism of this that motivates me to run; it's the value that my life experience will bring to a Parliament that is dominated by able bodied individuals.

No one should be made to feel ashamed of who they are; in being comfortable not only in themselves but acceptance by the whole community is something we should all strive towards. After all, all religions argue and promote acceptance; do unto others as you would do unto yourself.
