Elect a dignified death

By Geoff Wall - posted Friday, 27 February 2015

So how does this issue affect you?

Firstly, 30% of us die from cancer, the largest cause of suffering in dying, and hence palliative care expenses. If your cancer becomes unbearable, would you like to know that a peaceful, dignified death is always an option?

Secondly, if you happen to become one of the extremely unlucky ones, facing awful suffering for an unknown time, your current treatment choices are: a prayer and blessing from the Church, more medical treatment that doesn’t work, suicide by whatever means are at hand (hanging is commonest) or committing a criminal offence by obtaining a banned drug to die peacefully. If none of these options appeal to you, then the current laws are inadequate for your needs.

The law will change when politicians get the message that it’s in their interests to support VE. Then, like a good insurance policy, you’ll be covered for all eventualities and hopefully never need to use it.
