Cutting the grass in the theatre of war

By Junaid Cheema - posted Wednesday, 30 July 2014

Silent grass

For the Palestinians these games in the Neo-Colosseum are anything but a break. The Palestinians were never asked about being the grass which is cyclically chopped down like weed for approval ratings. Silent grass sits even lower than insects on the food chain, an analogy into the plight of the Palestinians - no one hears no one cares. Whether it is death by a thousand cuts - leaked cables confirming Israel's policy of starving the Palestinian economy; or humiliation by a million means – the countless confessions of ex-IDF soldiers of dehumanising beating and killing innocent civilians including children; or the blood spectacles of the Neo-Coliseum - butchered bodies of babies embraced one last time by screaming parents before finally saying good bye – no one hears no one cares. So when the sound of the war machines briefly stop, the shrieks of the giant constructions machines start, building new settlements on shattered Palestinian lives. Silent grass… that is their plight no one hears, so why should we care?

Lest we forget

For those choosing to see the conflict through tunnelled vision of Hamas terror should remember that long before Hamas was a recognised terrorist organisation, its foundation was a recognised peaceful charity. A charity with an ethos of non-violence, until peace was violently crushed! Yes those who chose to see Palestinians as inherently violent should remember the first Intifada (shaking off) was a massive non-violent social movement, mercilessly stomped as the world turned a blind eye. Baptism by blood was the fate of the Palestinian children, chosen not by them, but chosen for them! Children baptised in blood, grow up to know nothing but blood! Tragically the unlucky ones are not those who have who have died, but the ones who have to live in the hell of Israel's Neo-Coliseum.

A lose-lose situation

Einstein's prophetic letter, warned us of the Israeli fascism we see materialising before our very eyes. A fascism that feeds on the blood of Palestine and corrupts the soul of Israel, tragically the sadism of Sderot's Cinema is not unique. Serving Israeli MP Ayelet Shaked called for the Israeli military to "kill all Palestinian mothers for giving birth to little snakes". Does this world understand the consequence of the poison being brewed; was it not the same poison brewed by the Nazi's? One can't help but wonder if the children of the original peaceful Intifada can grow up to be Hamas, what will the children of Israel's bloody Neo-Coliseum become?
