One statistic showed that going through a divorce had little effect on an individual's hopes and aspirations, nonetheless, the breakdown of a marriage or de facto relationship can be an incredibly stressful time, not least because one in two divorces involve children. With around 40% of marriages ending in divorce, awareness of the importance of superannuation can help to reduce the stress and financial impact of legal separation. What divorcees need to realise is that superannuation should be treated as a type of asset, in the same way that you would your house or possessions.
