Andrew Barkla is Vice President and General Manager, Unisys Asia Pacific.
Based in Sydney, Mr Barkla has overall responsibility for strategic direction and operations in the Asia Pacific region. Unisys offers clients solutions for secure business operations by aligning technology with business strategy. Drawing on a history of industry innovation & expertise, Unisys provides specialised services, delivered by trusted consultants. In Asia Pacific, Unisys delivers services and solutions through subsidiaries in Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Malaysia, The Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand and through distributors or resellers in other countries in the region.
Mr Barkla joined Unisys in January 2003 as Vice President and General Manager, for Australia and New Zealand. Since then, he has set the organisation on a path toward market leadership. He has implemented a number of major initiatives to improve the performance and reputation of the business. His hands-on leadership is reflected in his active involvement in all significant opportunities and projects. Mr Barkla was appointed to his current role in June 2003.
Prior to his appointment at Unisys, Mr Barkla held senior executive roles with PeopleSoft; initially as Chief Operating Officer responsible for Australia and New Zealand, and subsequently as Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific. During his four years at PeopleSoft, Mr Barkla achieved market-share leadership in Australia and New Zealand, increased market share in developing Asian geographies, and repositioned PeopleSoft from a product to a solutions-led business. At the same time, he successfully led key deals across the region on behalf of PeopleSoft, including ANZ Bank, Bank of China and Cathay Pacific.
Previous to PeopleSoft, Mr Barkla spent eight years with System Software Associates (SSA) in roles with increasing responsibility, including Director of Operations, Greater China; General Manager, Canada; and Managing Director, Australia and New Zealand.
Mr Barkla has an Honours Degree in Business Administration Specialising in International Marketing from Wilfred Laurier University, Canada.
