April 2003 - What kind of justice can we expect from the courts?Surveys show that the public is losing faith in the court, court processes and Australia's justice system. From mutually unsatisfactory Family Court outcomes to high-profile escapees from what the public might think is justice, to "judicial activism", where judges are claimed to make up the law to suit their personal views. But what can the public realistically expect? No system is perfect - that's why we have the presumption of innocence. How could things be done better?
