Nominating minorities

By Ben-Peter Terpstra - posted Thursday, 17 April 2008

So, how do our professional reporters promote context? Three suggestions come to mind.

First, we have to acknowledge that without a Republican Party, America would look like Belgium. “For example,” Barton points out that “at a rally in Houston, Texas, on July 4, 1867, 150 blacks and 20 whites formed the Republican Party [there]; and black Republicans also started other Republican parties as well.”

Second, and if on occasion, we want to make character the issue, then we need to listen to the Democratic leaders. Why? Because, in my view, Obama has made the best case for voting against Hillary - and Hillary has made the best case for voting against Obama. (Are they ready?)

But, third and most obviously, can O’Brien stop patronising America?
