Common misconceptions

By Antonella Gambotto-Burke - posted Tuesday, 1 April 2008

The authors’ evidence that the hundreds of photographs on this site do not depict “real” rapes? “Most of the websites we found make it explicit that they are offering ‘fantasy’ rape situations.” (As opposed to those displaying notices stating that yes, the girls featured are underage and yes, they are trafficked and yes, they are really being raped, and for Interpol’s convenience, the home addresses and telephone numbers of all involved are included.)

“It’s clear,” the authors add, “when you look at the photos that these scenes are faked.” As evidence of this, these “senior academic researchers” volunteer no substantiation beyond their purported powers of clairvoyance and credulity.

Ultimately, The Porn Report has nothing on serial sex killer Ted Bundy’s last interview before his execution:

I’m not blaming pornography,” he stated. “I’m not saying it caused me to go out and do certain things … That’s not the question here. The issue is how this kind of literature contributed [to] and helped mold and shape [my] violent behavior … I’ve lived in prison for a long time now, and I’ve met a lot of men who were motivated to commit violence. Without exception, every one of them was deeply involved in pornography.
